There have been track test's and discussion on the new "4 stroke" Jr Sprint motor. I would like some input from "ALL" the Jr Sprint Teams on this subject. Some items of discussion are, which motor, when should it be run (this season, next season), R&D testing this season, ect......

I guess the first priority should be to identify what factors would drive the decision to search for another motor: Closer competition? Noise? Price? Fewer stalls?
That being said, the NMMA still allows a 4 stroke option, the Briggs "World Formula" 200cc. Looks like turn key w/ clutch and electric start they are just under $1000. I Don't know what a good KT100 costs right now. I would think the NMMA rules are likely written to make either powerplant competitive, though I don't know how much we have deviated from the national J-class with the KT's. Not saying the WF is the answer, just highlighting it as a nationally sanctioned option for 4-stroke.
I certainly see advantages in the idle ability, on-board starting, and potentially a noise reduction over the coffee can muffler. To me, it looks like the challenge of keeping the KT running at idle/low speed has made it tougher on the kids to learn line-ups and starts, and without a doubt adds to time spent on line up and caution laps.
Also a potential for more complicated tech procedures but maybe a claimer rule would be the easiest way to solve such concerns. Say $200 over retail, and you're not going to play too much, and won't be too sad about getting rid of your old used motor for a brand new one!
As a fan for a number of years, anything to either: A) cut down on the noise that the "chain saw" motors make by exhaust muffling would be appreciated by all I think, and B) make the cars easier to control at low speed would also be a bunch nicer for the drivers, I think, as well. Overall these two changes would make the kids alot more pleasant to watch, at least in my humble opinion. Kudos for the ideas, hope they work out ....
