As Vice President of the NWMSA for Deming Speedway, I have been asked by several members to address last Friday nights brown out at the Speedway. As you all know Paul Lemley made the decision right away after the lights went out to allow the fans to re-use their tickets for any regularly scheduled event this year. He also told all drivers and crew that they would be able to do the same for the back gate. As most of us are aware, the general rule of thumb is that if a A Main event starts during the course of a night there will be no refunds.
Many folks that race at Deming Speedway understand the commitment that Paul and his family go through year after year to provide a quality facility and a great racing surface. I will try to speak for the drivers and crews and state that Paul always takes the high road when it comes to treating us fairly and with respect. We as a group understand the challenges of keeping a racing facility open today and honestly don't feel right allowing Paul to absorb the costs for that.
Although there is no requirement, we would like to encourage everyone to turn Paul's offer down and pay for pit passes this weekend.
This is pretty awesome to see and witness people trying to do the right thing in supporting the Track, Promoters and Owners, this is a prime example of what it should be like when racers and track owners and operators have respect for each other. good job Deming Speedway and racers and supporters you all rock.
I agree, the cost of racing has been going up and up for both owners and TRACKS. There are times that Paul and Family have helped out a racer or two and asked nothing in return. I have gone to other events were they were cut short and did not get any compensation. So lets all help out where it will benefit all.
