No 250s at the 2006 Clay Cup

What is the real reason for the ending of a long time history of clay cup, has it ever been said the real reason,I have heard to many cars in the pits, change the format, maybe only take the A and B main cars or just the A main. I have heard not enough car count, we all know the car count will be better next year. I have heard to much smoke, there are ways to fix that, no one has tried. Then there is the misnomer of to much noise, again a easy fix problem. Just wondering and still amazed as to why they would be cut.

Scott,

I agree completely. There has been no official reason why. Rumors fly faster than the cars up here. I agree, the "issues" are all either fabricated or easy to fix.

the combined 250 car count (since that is how we've been told we will run next year) has been higher than 600 and 1200 for every race since clay cup, and probably 90% of the races this season. From a financial perspective, they wont replace the revenue lost by dropping the 250s, especially with the increase in 4stroke purses. The cost issue is fabricated, the 'smoke' is less intrusive than the dust the bigger cars create, and the noise is below the track's enforcable requirements and all other classes, and can easily be made quieter if the track dictated it.

We are just as dissapointed that the announcement was spun to be a positive in boosting payout, rather than acknowledging that Deming is dropping a class from the event. We will continue to promote the 250 class through our HiPer wheel dealership (and others, TBA), as well as the creation of a supplemental 250 class incentive program. There are a lot of drivers and owners that are committed to keeping the 250 class an affordable and competitive level to compete at Deming, with or without the Clay Cup. This includes much appreciated support from owners and drivers in other classes.

Devin, scheduling and sanctioning races for 250s at other tracks in the area is one of the topics we intended to discuss and pursue during the off-season.
