I understand that the 600 car-count was down significantly this weekend in Salem (to a total of 6 cars, after an opening weekend that brought 16+ cars). This begs the question, was it a coincidence, or was it attributed to the sudden requirement for wings?
I have received a few phone calls from NMSA members who expressed concern about the uncertainty of the racing program in Salem, given the limited participation that was experienced this weekend.
Simply put, i feel the track promoters need to make it clear whether or not they are willing to re-consider the wing-requirement. Similarly, i think anybody who has been (or is considering) competing at Salem needs to make it clear to the promoters the terms upon which they are willing to compete. Perhaps this will clarify whether this was a one-week boycott, or a sign of things to come for the remainder of the season.
I believe there is an opportunity for the drivers & promoters to find a solution that is mutually beneficial, and in the best interests of advancing the sport of mini-sprint racing in the northwest.

We had a great time at the opening race at Salem. I didn't really see any rough driving nor did I see even a warning with a black flag unless it was for too many DOT's. We are fortunate that we are able to race at Deming 20+ times a year, the reason we are willing to drive over 4 hours to Salem is for the non-wing experience. We unfortunatley won't be returning for winged racing.
We agree with the Samuelsons. The past few years we ran the non-wing program at Salem. Our intrest in racing at Salem indoor was the non-wing racing experience. We are not willing to spend the $700. it cost our family to run at Salem if we have to run wings. If they could add a non-wing class we would return.
As I said before and as it has been stated in the rules for the last 2 years if the wings were put back on the cars it would be staying that way. There will be no more wingless micro racing at Salem. I thought that my first post on this matter was clear on that but hopefully this one clears up any further confusion.
If you were a good Promoter you would listen to the people that support your your races. We all know from your post that your IN CHARGE and THATS FINAL!!
If you don't want the car count that's up to you.
Your theory worked, by putting the wings back on there was no rough driving because there weren't enough cars that showed up. 4 stock and 2 restricted? So you were right!!!
You might want to listen to the racers that support you!!
I don't think anyone demanded you go wingless, just that you listen and might reconsider.
It is apparent that there is no concern for the micros.. The interest at Salem is for the Karts. They are number at Salem and bring in the most money so that is where the support is.
