Super 600 Nationals Update

Night 1 is in the books.  The format was draw a pill and they line you up in your heat straight up based on your pill.  They ran 6 heats with 8 cars in each and you earned points on finish and received 3 pts for each pass.  The top 16 cars in points from the heat went on to the A main and the others ran in two separate B mains.  The top 4 finishers from each B transfered into the A.

JR "The Juiceman" Thomas was the first to the sign in window and pulled a horrible pill draw which put him in the second to last row in his 8 car heat race.  He finished 7th which put him starting 12th in the 1st B main.  He ended up making some great passes and worked his way up to 6th before losing 1 position with 2 laps left and finishing 7th.

Bam Bam Cam Smith started his heat on the front row and believe it or not Bam Bam wasn't the one doing the bamming.  Needless to say it cost him a few positions and he fell back to 5th.  Cam started 10th in the 2nd B main and finished 8th.

Shawn The Highliner Holtorf looked great in his heat race and finished 3rd after starting 4th or 5th and he made the A main starting in the 16th position.  Some rough drivers in the early going and an extremely tight car moved him back a few spots but he ran well and had a great night!

Colton Heath started his heat in 3rd and finished 3rd which put him in 3rd to start the B main.  Colton ran very well in the B main finishing 2nd and at times was putting some pressure on the 1st place guy.  Colton started near the back of the 24 car A main and at one point had moved up to around 16th before having car trouble which put him out for the rest of the race.

Trey Starks had a great heat race finishing 3rd (I think) after making some good passes.  He also transferred directly into the A from his heat and finished somewhere near the middle of the A main.

48 cars on Thursday and they expect 15 more tomorrow night.  99% are multi motors and they scream so I would say 3 of the 6 Deming Cars making the A main and all 6 making forward progress all night is pretty good considering 5 of them are stock motors.

Other interesting facts....I think I counted 5 or 6 of the multi motors that blew up during hot laps, heat races and mains...  I guess the same thing happened last week at Lemoore and from what they tell us it is a frequent occurence.  In fact one guy claims he has went through 6 motors this season alone!  Are you sure we want to go to multi's next year?

More to come...
