Nationalsprinttour.com said that Brownfield died after being hit by a car in the Modified class during the seventh annual Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals.

According to a statement released by Grays Harbor Raceway, Brownfield was hit while lining up cars before the start of the D Main race and was taken by medical personnel to Mark Reed Hospital in McCleary.
Racing was cancelled after the accident but tentatively is scheduled to resume today.
A spokeswoman for the Elma Police Department said police were investigating an accident at the track.
Brownfield, a former World of Outlaws driver, was named the Outlaws Promoter of the Year in 2005. He started this National Sprint Tour this season and was in Iowa earlier this week for business with the series.
According to the series’ Web site, Brownfield is survived by his wife, Debbie; three daughters, Carrie, Jessica and Shelby; and two sons, Ty and Luke.
